Gujarat is #1 in SKOCH State of Governance 2022

Highlights

• Gujarat once again becomes #1 nationally in the SKOCH State of Governance Report 2022.
• Total of 84 well-performing projects qualified for SKOCH Order-of-Merit, out of which, 11 were highly impactful, and 20 were impactful projects.
• State performed very well in 19 categories.
  1. Topped in Education, District Governance, General Administration, Police & Safety, and Power & Energy categories nationally.
  2. Has shown maximum improvement in Health and Environment.
  3. Consistent performance in Finance category.
  4. Participated for the first time in Irrigation, Rural Development & Forest and entered in the top 10 nationally.
  5. Recovered in Agriculture, Tourism & Culture, Transport, and Women & Child Development.
• Education, District Governance, and Power & Energy submitted a large number of projects for evaluation. Out of these, several well-performing projects were qualified as highly impactful and impactful projects.
• Key achievements
  1. Gujarat bagged 84 SKOCH Orders-of-Merit in the SKOCH State of Governance Awards 2022.
  2. Almost half of these are in Education, Power & Energy, and District Governance. 
  3. Three SKOCH Orders-of-Merit were in Ease-of-Doing Business, e-Governance, Police & Safety and Women & Child Development each. 
  4. The state won seven, six, and four SKOCH Orders-of-Merit in Forest, Health, and Municipal Governance, respectively.
  5. The state won 31 awards – one in PLATINUM, ten in GOLD, and twenty in the SILVER category.

What needs to be DONE in 2023?

• 100+ projects required to retain to #1 state
• Alternatively a higher number of Platinum and Gold performance can improve the ranking
• Incremental improvements in previously evaluated/awarded projects can be submitted
• Multiple projects from one department can be submitted
• Most states have a large number of projects at the District and Municipal levels
• Most states tend to retain or improve their annual ranks
• Police and Power & Energy tend to submit a larger number of projects
