Punjab is widely acknowledged as the “Granary of India”. The state has twenty two districts, a population of 2,77,04,236 (Census, 2011) and a relatively good infrastructure. Punjab also has one of the lowest poverty ratios in India. This financial year, the GSDP at constant prices is expected to touch Rs 1.83 lakh crore. The state won three SKOCH Order-of-Merit, one each in Municipalities, e-Governance and Health categories.
The first category in which, Punjab won the Order-of-Merit is Municipalities. Under this, the Municipal Corporation of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Punjab) won the Order-of-Merit for its project ‘Toll Free Helpline + Cramat Android App for Grievances’. In this, a person having any complaint pertaining to Municipal Corporation can lodge his/her complaint online while from anywhere. As of Aug 2015, 1,76,152 people had been covered under this scheme.
In the e-Governance category, the Punjab State Power Corporation bagged the Order-of-Merit for its ‘Consumer Complaint Registration and Resolution through Electricity Call Centre and Nodal Complaint Centres’ project. An efficient and fast fault resolution mechanism was the need of the hour to provide uninterrupted power to domestic and other consumers while ensuring guaranteed supply to agriculture consumers. The project to address this issue has been successfully rolled out all over Punjab in 98 no divisions, serving 80 lakh consumers. All complaints are now being registered and monitored through the new system.
Coming to the Health category win, C-DAC Mohali’s Sanjeevani-Blood Bank Management System won the Order-of-Merit. Blood Bank Management System (Sanjeevani-BBMS) is an information system that has been designed to store, process, archive and retrieve the information pertaining to inventory management, administrative processes and clinical aspects of the services provided by a blood bank. It has been implemented at the IMA Blood Bank of Uttarakhand (IMABBUK) in Dehradun and over 1.5 donors are registered at the Blood Bank, with donations coming in from all cities in the State.
