The Government of Puducherry has taken innovative steps to bridge the communication gap between doctors and patients. The measures also include cost effective delivery of healthcare services to the common citizen.
Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (JIPMER), a Central Government autonomous institution of national importance under Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, Puducherry, has developed Mobile Doctor- Patient Interactive Trolley. This Mobile Trolley has been innovatively prepared using unused trollies available in the Department. The system has been equipped with Video Conferencing equipment with 128 to 256 kbps Internet connection. Portable Cordless Mobile Wi-Fi Router is used for connectivity.
This Interactive Trolley is used for Tele-Ward consultations. For videoconferencing, free Skype software is used. This Innovative Telemedicine Trolley can be prepared and used in any other Government Hospitals across the country.
This Interactive Trolley allowed online interaction between a Remote Doctor and admitted ward patients round the clock. Interaction is initiated either by Doctor/ Nurse of the ward or remote Doctor Online. Any patient admitted in the wards of government hospitals can connect to the Doctor through the mobile trolley.
