Kerala has secured the 20th position in the SKOCH State of Governance Report 2024. The state was ranked #8 during 2023. The state has several citizen oriented, public welfare projects doing exceptionally well leaving a significant impact with notable outcomes.
The state of Kerala has a history of being one the well performing states. Although, recent years have seen a fall, Kerala continues to strive for a healthy functioning of public welfare policies.
The state made notable gains in Transport sector with 1st rank nationally. A high level of improvement was seen in Animal Husbandry & Fisheries, as well as District Governance with both sectors seeing substantial climb to rankings of 3rd and 8th respectively.
These enhancements are indicative of Kerala’s work towards governance and public services excellence.
Kerala also shined with its new projects, with sectors like Sports & Youth performing so well that it gained the top rank nationally. It is commendable for a first-time participant to achieve such a feat. In the same avenue and not far behind, was Ease-of-Doing Business sector that achieved 6th rank nationally which shows Kerala’s reform-oriented administrative approach.
The sectors of District Governance and Animal Husbandry saw the most growth in this year and so did the sectors with new entries this year with both Sports & Youth and Ease-of-Doing Business doing well in rankings.
Kerala’s strength lies in its active district-level participation, with a larger number of projects emerging from grassroots governance.
These local-level efforts have significantly contributed to Kerala’s overall impact, demonstrating a bottom-up approach to development and service delivery.
The THINKAL Project, launched in September 2018 by HLL Management Academy, promotes menstrual health and sustainability through the distribution of menstrual cups. It addresses solid waste concerns, health risks from traditional products and economic inaccessibility.
The project has reached 700,000 women, reducing the carbon footprint by 0.16 million tons of CO2 equivalent.
It has helped dispel menstrual taboos through awareness campaigns and partnerships with government and corporate CSR initiatives.
