Arunachal Pradesh ranks 26th in the SKOCH State of Governance Report 2024, highlighting both its challenges and potential in governance performance. However, Arunachal Pradesh must significantly expand its portfolio of high-impact projects, particularly at the district and municipal levels. Prioritising submissions in critical sectors like Police, Power & Energy and Municipal Services could yield higher awards and improve the state’s overall ranking.
The state is in very close competition with Goa and Nagaland, which shows that if the momentum is sustained, Arunachal can achieve success in good governance. Economically, Arunachal Pradesh faces challenges in fiscal sustainability and revenue mobilisation. According to the Fiscal Health Index 2023, Arunachal Pradesh ranks 19th overall, with a strong showing in Quality of Expenditure (Rank 5), demonstrating efficient allocation of funds to developmental sectors. However, it lags in Revenue Mobilisation (Rank 22) and Fiscal Prudence (Rank 19), indicating a reliance on central transfers rather than strong own-revenue growth. The Debt-to-GSDP ratio remains at a manageable level, but improving Debt Sustainability is critical to ensure financial stability.
