As Director of the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP), she has advanced pathbreaking research on the role of the State in development, the design of equitable and efficient taxation systems and the fiscal federal architecture of India.
Her rigorous work on GST, state finances and taxpayer behaviour has become an indispensable reference or policymakers and academics alike.
Through influential publications — ranging from GST and State Finances to Debt Sustainability in Indian States — and through her service on key government committees including the Revenue Neutral Rate Committee for GST, SEZ Study Group, and the Integrated Rating Exercise for Power Distribution Utilities, she has shaped debates that bridge theory and practice.
She is credited with outstanding contributions to strengthening fiscal policy, advancing transparency and enriching India’s economic governance.
