Telangana is the newest and the 29th state of India. It was formed in June 2014 with Hyderabad as its capital. It has 10 districts and a population of 35,286,757 (2011 census). As per the advanced estimates, the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) growth of the State during 2014-15 is estimated at 5.3 per cent, as compared to the growth rate of 4.8 per cent recorded in 2013-14, at constant prices of 2004-05. The total GSDP of the State at the current prices has crossed the Rs 4 lakh crore mark. Telangana has bagged a total of four SKOCH Order-of-Merit, three in e-Governance and one in Health.

Key Achievements

Taking the Health category, Department of Atomic Energy/Electronics Corporation of India Ltd won the Order-of-Merit for the Cancer Hospital Information Management System (CHIMS) project. The CHIMS solution helps in providing effective patient services in cancer hospitals and improved analytical and statistical studies of cancer trends in the country to Research Institutes and National Tumor Registry. This CHIMS is under satisfactory use for more than half a decade in Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai and at Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital, Visakhapatnam and Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital, Sangruru. One specific module of the solution under Nuclear Medicine is implemented for Radiation Medicine Centre, BARC, Mumbai.

Coming to the e-Governance section, the Order-of-Merit were won by NIC – Nizamabad, Telangana for TSKS (Household Survey) Linkage with e- PDS; Northern Power Distribution Company of Telengana limited for GPRS Enabled Integrated Spot Billing; and NIC, APSC, Hyderabad for ‘e-Labs’. The TSKS Survey was an intensive household survey (Samagra Kutumba Survey) that was completed in a day, i.e., on 19th August 2014 across the state. Nearly 1 crore households and 3.6 crore citizens participated in the survey. The objective was to have a single robust database of all the households of the State as to identify deserving beneficiaries. In the e-Labs project the objectives were to automate the Government Testing labs, ensure legal validity of the testing and documentation processes, improve the effectiveness and efficiency procedures at Government Testing Labs and generate and disseminate test results in time.

The new vision of Telangana can be broadly summarised as “progress with distributive justice”. Economic infrastructure lays emphasis on energy, irrigation, roads, transport, airports etc.
