Rajasthan is the last Catching Up state for the SKOCH State of Governance 2021 report card. Rajasthan has ranked #15 for the year. The Top 5 states are recognised to be ‘Star’ states, followed by the next five rank-holders, which are called ‘Performer’ states. The states that rank between #10 and #15 are then classified as ‘Catching Up’ states.
Rajasthan’s entry into back into the ‘Catching Up’ category is the most recent development in its recent history of performance setbacks. Rajasthan was the #4 ranking state in 2018 but experienced a significant decline to the #12 spot in 2019. The state experienced even more of a setback the following year, dropping another six spots to #18 in 2020. In its most recent outing, the state has displayed an improvement, climbing up three places to the #15 rank in 2021.
Rajasthan’s recent turnaround is rooted in its strong performance in some important sectors in 2021. The state ranked #1 in Housing, #3 in Rural Development, #4 in Water and #7 in eGovernance.
