Delhi: Initiatives in Waste Management, e-Governance

The National Capital Territory of Delhi has taken a number of impressive initiatives in areas of e-Governance and solid waste management. Delhi is in Emerging category in this year’s SKOCH Governance study. It won 3 SKOCH Orders-of-Merit and 1 SKOCH Governance Award in Silver category.

Key Achievements

With an objective to accomplish the vision of a ‘Clean India’ by 2 October 2019, the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) introduced several cleanliness drives. It has put in place an innovative Solid Waste Management system in PPP model.

Shri Dada Dev Matri Avum Shishu Chikitsalaya has put in place Smartphone-based family planning Helpline. The required information is provided through WhatsApp/voice calls/SMS. A large number of population is unaware of family planning services provided by hospital more so about the NSV services. This is in spite of the fact that there is widespread acceptance of family planning in the community. The Hospital has started, for the first time in India, family planning helpline services. All kinds of family planning related information is provided through the helpline and also through the App.

Revenue Department, Government of NCT of Delhi, has selected 19 Government to Citizen (G2C) services for re-engineering and electronic delivery under e-District programme. These services that include issuance of income certificate, birth and death certificates, ration cards, etc are now web-enabled and accessible to the citizens on Internet and through e-District Kiosk consisting of Department windows at district, sub-divisions, Citizens Service Points (CSPs) of Food & Civil Supplies Department and GRC Centers of Department of Social welfare. These outlets provide a range of services to the residents of Delhi.
